The Story of Plastic & Community Action Panel In-Person

Hosted by the Norfolk Environmental Commission Featuring Special Guests: Christina Trapani, Executive Director, Clean Virginia Waterways Karen Forget, Executive Director, Lynnhaven River NOW

Join the Norfolk Environmental Commission (NEC) for a powerful follow-up panel and call to action inspired by the documentary The Story of Plastic, originally screened in February 2025. This event is part of America Recycles Day and Upcycle Fest at Pretlow Library.

Facilitated by Commissioner Ken Kimidy, the panel will feature environmental leaders Christina Trapani and Karen Forget, who will explore the impacts of plastic pollution and share actionable solutions tailored to Norfolk’s needs.

This panel offers a timely opportunity for Norfolk residents to learn how to engage with local leaders on pressing environmental issues like a proposed plastic bag fee, and microplastic, as well as building understanding around the impacts of local policy in our neighborhoods and communities, to discovering how advocacy and community action can drive meaningful change and how we can all help.

Don’t miss the Reuse Festival in the Maker Space! Before or after the panel, visit the Maker Space to create useful upcycled products from recycled materials. Learn hands-on techniques you can take home to help reduce waste and support sustainable living.
